summer project: peer review

summer project: final images

wear a mask of yourself: final photograph

i knew from the start that i wanted to take the photograph in an urban/city space to reflect on the original idea. other than it looking really cute i thought the idea worked nicely and took a lot of picures and found it really hard to choose a favourite. i think my favourite is my boyfriend holding his hand up to his face on the stairs as i think this adds more character and movement rather than just standing in the middle of the frame.

wear a mask of yourself: testing + development

the first thing that i did when creating my mask was smash my face on a piece of paper and get someone to draw around it so i knew i had a mask big enough to cover my ugly mug.
drawing at such a big scale was quite daunting at first, especially for an a6 sketchbook-er like myself. however i got over it and the outcome was the perfect size. however as the paper was a bit flimsy i had to mount it on some cardboard so that it would hold itself up without difficulty.
someone mentioned to me that the panda looked quite sad, which made me question if i should redraw it, however when i thought about it it worked with my theme of feeling a bit lost and out of place.

wear a mask of yourself: initial ideas

my initial ideas were that i wanted to create something that showed how i felt. mostly about moving to university and how intimidating and scary it was.
with this concept i decided to do the 'wild animal' idea, as i thought photographing an animal in a city would create a nice concept and show how out of body it feels to be in a new place and away from home.
however i wanted to keep it somewhat lighthearted so i thought doing a cartoon based drawing might make it more appealing than something more realistic.
